To mark the online publication of the Letter Book of Florence MacCarthy Mór on CELT, Dunmanway Historical Association will hold the MacCarthy Historical & Cultural Weekend at the Parkway Hotel, Dunmanway, Co. Cork, from Friday 31st May to Sunday 2nd June 2013.
Florence MacCarthy was famously described in a 1595 Report to Queen Elizabeth touching Florence M'Carthy as 'the most dangerous man of all the Irish nation.'
Supported by UCC School of History, this event will include talks on history and archaeology, local tours and live music. The programme begins on Friday evening with the official launch of the Florence MacCarthy Mór Letter Book. On Saturday, Irish scholars, historians, and archaeologists will give talks on the history of the Mac Carthys and the archaeology of West Cork. Speakers include Hiram Morgan, Denise Sheehan, Kenneth Nicholls, Pádraig Ó Macháin, Mervyn O'Driscoll, Paul MacCotter and Colin Rynne. There will also be an afternoon bus tour, and evening Dinner with traditional live music.
