Simple search of the CELT database

This is an experimental search interface using Google's custom search. It will search resources on both CELT and Multitext.

Below is the original search engine (PAT): You can search for text:

  • a part of a word (just type the letters).
  • a whole word (type a space before and after the word).

If you want to look for a title or an author, see Published Texts.

Results are listed in standard KWIC (KeyWord In Context) format, and you can obtain the canonical reference for each one. The corpus now contains over 10.3 million words, searches are not instantaneous!

This is how the search engine works:

Click on all three of Prose, Verse and Drama to search the full corpus:
Drama includes plays and parliamentary speeches; Full document is both text and TEI header;
Text is the work (poem, novel, etc.)
TEI header gives information on the electronic edition, including bibliography.
Markup is SGML/TEI tagging which indicates the structure and content of a text: it contains information about the text.

Type the text to search for:

in Prose Verse Drama
