Item91 the people who fall oftenest into the disease called hectica, or tertian fever, are those who have a hot dry complexion, but they whose complexion is hot and moist, fall quicker from ephemera into the complexion of putrid fever; thereafter those in whom heat is greater, and again those in whom dryness is greater, and if the complexion be hot and dry, and the sick man suffering from hunger, want of sleep, or bodily labour, he falls swiftly92 (?) into ephemera; and unless he get food at once, he passes into putrid fever.
