section 16

The proper purgatives to give here are those that purge choler, and purify the blood from burnt humours, as cassia fistula, tamarind, violets, borage flowers; the juice of bugloss, of rue, and of roses50 (?); myrobalani citrini, chebuli, emblici, bellirici, and indi. If he have taken food previously, or be drunken51, give him but little of these, and also if he be a person that consumes many cold things, as cold water, cold fruit and the like. The compound purgatives that avail in this case are: oxylaxativum, diaprunis, and triphera saracenica.
