MOCHTA'S ADZE,

namely, an adze of brass which Mochta the Wright possessed. It used to be put into a fire of blackthorn [until it was red-hot], and the tongue (of the accused) was passed over it8. He who had falsehood was burnt. He who was innocent was not burnt at all.
