Aenghus Gaifuileach, i. e. Aenghus of the bloody spear. He is also Aenghus Bolg, i. e. Aenghus of the sacks or quivers. The name Aenghus, which is anglicized Angus, Enos, and Latinized Aeneas, is compounded of ‘Aen’, singular, excellent, and ‘gus’, deed, or act. The word ‘gus’ and ‘gal’, 'valor, fight', enter into the composition of names of men amongst the ancient Irish, Fearghus, Fearghal; Donnghus, Donnghall, &c.
