Now always anglicised Keaveny. This family descends from Geibhennach, son of Aedh, chief of all Hy-Many, who, according to the Annals of the Four Masters, was slain in the battle of Ceis Corainn, in the year 971. In the year 1018 O'Geibhennaigh is mentioned in the same Annals as Tanist of Hy-Many. The Editor found several of this name in Hy-Many, but all reduced to poverty.
