This text was first published in The Nation 28 June, 1845. This date is provided by T.W. Moody. This text is taken from Thomas Davis: selections from his prose and poetry. [Edited] With an introduction by T. W. Rolleston. Pp. 367. London and Leipzig:T. Fisher Unwin (Every Irishman's Library). Dublin: The Talbot Press. 1914. It almost exactly matches that found in Essays, literary and historical. By Thomas Davis. Centenary edition, including several pieces never before collected. [Edited] With preface, notes etc. by D. J. O'Donoghue, and an essay by John Mitchel. This is from the American edition of the poems, mentioned above. Pp. 456. Dundalk: W. Tempest, Dundalgan Press. 1914.
