1. 1] O lovely head of the woman that I loved,
   2] In the middle of the night I remember thee;
   3] But reality returns with the sun's whitening,
   4] Alas, that the slender worm gnaws thee to-night.
2. 5] Beloved voice, that wast low and beautiful,
   6] Is it true that I heard thee in my slumbers!
   7] Or is the knowledge true that tortures me?
   8] My grief, the tomb hath no sound or voice?
